A caring and compassionate friend

I met Fulton through his college girlfriend, Kelly Tomblin, while at WVU in the early 1980s.  Kelly and I were roomates and I spent lots of time with she and Fulton around Morgantown.

When finishing up my student teaching experience at Westover Elementary School, I asked Fulton if he would be willing to come to our fourth/fifth grade class and share some responses to interview questions the kids wrote.  He was more than happy to do so.  He sat down with the kiddos, let them ask their prepared questions, and even autographed each of the kids' sneakers (as they had anticipated he was one day going to be famous).

Fulton shared with me that his real love was baseball but he felt there were so few black ball players he wouldn't "make it" in the pros.  I'm glad that he was able to make that punt return (that we all know he practiced and practiced and he was so good at) and feel what it is like to "make it", even if it was in the sport that was his second love.  I am a Redskins fan, but cheered for Fulton on that day!!!

Always, I will remember his sweet face, soft words, kind heart, and compassionate soul.  He cared about his friends being happy and was one of the most special guys that I met in my college years at WVU.

He will be forever in my heart and in my prayers on Sundays at mass.  Love to his family.  I would love to be with family and friends for the service but have family obligations that have been planned for a long while.  Again, he was loved by and made a significant impression on someone else whom you very well do not know but you now know how truly special he was to me.
