Mary Ann Brannon, 73, of Bunker Hill passed away Thursday, October 13, 2016 at INOVA Fairfax Hospital. Born September 15, 1943, in Gerrardstown, WV, she was the daughter of the late John David and Helen Gantt Linton. She married her high school sweetheart, David Lee Brannon, on August 11, 1963.They resided in Bunker Hill and she is survived by him after 53 years of marriage. In addition, she is survived by her son, Timothy G. Brannon and his fiancé Carla Burtt of Gerrardstown; daughter, Morgan Wright and husband, Paul of Bunker Hill; grandsons, Timothy G. Brannon, Jr., John-David William Wright, Noah Levi Wright; granddaughter Lindsey Rene Brannon; brother Charles Linton and wife Mary Lee of Inwood; aunt, Norma Jean Knipe of Martinsburg; brother in law and sister in law, Leslie L. and Bonnie O. Brannon of Inwood; sister in law and brother in law, Betty and John Coyle, of Edom Virginia, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her granddaughters Malory and Justine Wright.
She was an active member of Bunker Hill United Methodist Church, Crusaders Sunday School class and the Bunker Hill United Methodist Women. She also worked for many years teaching children’s Sunday School classes. She was an avid reader and participated each year in the United Methodist Women’s reading program. She was a 1961 graduate of Musselman High School. She was an active member of the Bunker – Hill Musselman High School Alumni Association over the past 15 years where she served in various roles from Vice-President to member at large.
Mary Ann graduated from Shepherd College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. She later earned her Masters of Communication from West Virginia University. For 34 years, she was employed by Berkeley County Schools teaching first grade, with 32 of those years being at Inwood Primary school. In her lifetime of teaching, she was a positive influence and touched the lives of many children. She was also involved and worked in the family business.
After retirement she was involved and enjoyed participating in CEOS and the Red Hat Society. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels and served as a PASS volunteer in the school system. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren, teaching them canning and baking skills. She also enjoyed spending time traveling with David. Their travels included trips to Italy, Germany, and England. They also enjoyed several Caribbean cruises and traveled to many states in this country.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bunker Hill United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 327, Bunker Hill, WV 25413 or the Bunker Hill- Musselman High School Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 154, Inwood, WV 25428.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6pm to 8pm and the funeral service will be Wednesday at 11:00am. Both services will be at Brown Funeral Home, South Berkeley Chapel, Inwood, WV.
