David A. Kerr of Shepherdstown passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Berkeley Medical Center.
Born November 12, 1939 in Clarksburg, WV he was the son of the late George Porter Kerr, Jr. and Mary Gertrude Jones Kerr.
He was a 1957 graduate of Shepherdstown High School and a 1968 graduate of Shepherd College. He proudly served in the US Army Military Police Corp from 1962-1964. He had been employed by the Maryland Department of Environment and Washington County Health Department for thirty four years as a Public Health Sanitarian; and previously employed by the RCA Service Company and Aerospace Corp Patrick AFB and Cape Canaveral Florida. He also taught with the Berkeley County Schools for one year.
David was a member of the American Legion Post #0042 of Hagerstown, MD and a member of Mt. Nebo Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons from 1990 to present. He was also a member of the Shepherdstown Fire Department from 1957 to present serving several positions including: chief engineer, driver, secretary, treasurer, and trustee.
He was a member of New Street United Methodist Church from 1954 where he had served on various committees.
David is survived by his wife of 45 years, Carolyn J. Kerr; two children, Gindy Kerr Goff and husband, John of Shepherdstown and Brian George Kerr of Seattle, Washington; and two grandchildren, Matthew and Lily Goff of Shepherdstown.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra K. Busey.
Family will receive friends on Friday, June 24, 2016 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Brown Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 2:30PM at New Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Dee-Ann Dixon officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the New Street United Methodist Church, Shepherdstown or the Shepherdstown Volunteer Fire Department.
