Obituary for Carl Wesley Townsend Jr.

Carl Wesley Townsend, Jr., 78, of Martinsburg passed away on Friday, May 27, 2016 at the Hospice of the Panhandle Inpatient Facility.

Born April 1, 1938 in Martinsburg, WV he was the son of the late Carl Wesley Townsend and Myrtle Butts Townsend Snyder.

He had worked for Thorne Lumber Company and Ready Mix.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a former member of VFWand Martinsburg Moose Lodge.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia Hite J. Townsend; one daughter, Joyce Kisner and husband, Steve; three grandchildren, Robert Quinn, III, Breanne Kelly and husband, Matt, and Danielle Ours and husband, Anthony; two great-grandsons, Austin Graham and Colten Kelly; one sister, Anna Lee Albert; and three special friends, James Nolls, William James, and Pete Hess.

He was preceded in death by a son, Carl Chuck Townsend; a brother, Earl Townsend; and a sister, Pearl Hess.

Family wishes to express a special thank you to Hospice of the Panhandle and Berkeley Medical Center for their kind and loving support.


Family will receive friends on Monday, May 30, 2016 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Brown Funeral Home.


Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at 11:00AM at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Christine Olson and Chaplain Doug Knupp officiating.

Interment will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery at Needmore.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
