Obituary for Janita Giles (Grandstaff)

Janita Giles, 80, of Bunker Hill passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at the Berkeley Medical Center.

Born April 27, 1937 in St. David’s Church, Virginia she was the daughter of the late Charles Edgar Grandstaff and Ethel Rebecca Clem Grandstaff.

She was a member of Bunker Hill United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Crusaders Class and the United Methodist Women.

She was a graduate of Strasburg High School and Winchester Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a RN at Winchester Medical Center retiring in 2002.

Mrs. Giles was very active in her community. She was a member of the Civitan Club, Bunker Hill CEOS, Inwood/Bunker Hill Lions, South Berkeley Red Hats Society, Morgan Cabin committee, Shenandoah Valley Steam and Gas Engine Association, South Berkeley Christmas Tree committee, and a volunteer with the Winchester Medical Center Auxiliary Attic Thrift Store.

She is survived by her children, Linda G. Custer and husband, Rick of Gerrardstown, Karen S. Angus of Bunker Hill, and Steve D. Giles of Bunker Hill; grandchildren, Jennifer L. Howell (Aaron) of Charles Town, Amy L. Blue (Jay) Shenandoah Junction, Eric J. Custer of Gerrardstown, Collin Angus of Winchester, Chelsea Angus of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Brittany Angus of Rowlett, TX; great-grandchildren, Abby, James, Jeremiah Blue and Taylor Howell; one brother, Joe Grandstaff of Harrisonburg, VA and one sister, Nancy Shrum of Woodstock, VA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Keith Giles; one son, Capt. Jeffrey S. Giles, USAF; and one brother, James Grandstaff.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, February 17, 2018 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at the Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel.

Funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at 2:00PM at the South Berkeley Chapel with Pastor Danny Breidenbaugh and Rev. Paul Leatherman officiating. Graveside service will be held on Monday, February 19, 2018 at 10:00AM at Shenandoah Memorial Park Cemetery in Winchester, VA.
