Obituary for Claude Swanson Stanton Sr.

Claude Swanson Stanton, 85, of Ranson, went Home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 17, 2016. Born January 15, 1931 in Kabletown, he was the son of the late Henry H. Stanton and Annie S. Jones Stanton.
He was of the Baptist faith. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving from Nov. 1950 through Dec. 1951. He received the Korean Service and Japan Occupation medals and four bronze campaign stars, serving under the 10th Corps with the Eighth Army. He was associated with the Postal Service for more the 50 years. He was the superintendent of Fairview Cemetery. He was a Deacon at the Wainwright Baptist Church, where he attended for most of his adult years. He was a member of the NAACP, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, Charles Town Post 102, and was a Prince Hall Mason. He also did volunteer work in his community. He always visited the sick and disabled at their homes, in nursing homes, rest homes, and hospitals, as well as those who were incarcerated.
Claude is survived by his wife Alice Mae Hart Stanton, at home; son, Claude Stanton, Jr. “Sam,” of Charles Town; daughter, Sharon Kay Stanton, of Sterling, Virginia; 2 grandsons: Christopher Stanton, and wife Kelley, and Raymond Roy Stanton, and wife Christine, and 3 great grandchildren: Zavin Stanton, Alana Stanton, and Christopher Stanton, Jr.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Sat., Oct. 22, 2016, at the Wainwright Baptist Church, with the Rev. Walter Jackson officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
