Obituary for Thomas L. Gasper

Thomas L. Gasper, 93, of Martinsburg, WV, passed away on Monday, October 10, 2016 at Winchester Medical Center.

Born April 13, 1923 in Williamsburg, PA, he was the son of the late George John Gasper and Katherine Bednar Gasper.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army Air Force as a navigator on a B-17 bomber, stationed in England. After the war he returned to his job at Interwoven Hosiery Mill where he advanced to a supervisory position in the production department. In 1966 he accepted a position with the IRS at the Martinsburg Computer Center, retiring from there on January 3, 1986.

Mr. Gasper was a life-long member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and graduated from St. Joseph High School. He also attended one semester at Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas after enlisting in the military. He was a member of the National Right-to-Life and West Virginians for Life organizations. He was a past member of the Stonebridge Golf Club.

He is survived by two daughters, Diane Parkinson and husband, Nelson, Patricia Rogers and husband, Larry; three sons, George Gasper and wife, Ruth, Joseph Gasper and wife, Crystal, and Timothy Gasper; two step-daughters, Joanne Murphy Kozier and Sharon Murphy; four step-sons, Mike Murphy, Jim Murphy, Don Murphy, and Louis Murphy; seven grandsons; three great-grandsons; one granddaughter; two great-granddaughters; three step-grandsons; four step-granddaughters along with many nieces and nephews; and one brother, Joseph Gasper.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Alvia "Vicky" Gasper; his second wife of seven years, Mary "Jane" Haas Murphy; a step-son, Brian Murphy; nine sisters; and two brothers.

Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Brown Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 14, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Eric Hall, celebrant.

Interment with Military Graveside Services will be held in Rosedale Cemetery.
